Mothers Daughter by Citterio & Citterio
Parenting without a supportive circle of women becomes difficult.
A story of four best friends who, at the age of 17, find out they are pregnant at the same time.
Regina, María José, Valentina and Ximena meet in the waiting room before going to the gynecologist. Four teenagers, alone, scared, and with a baby in their bellies.
A story told in two times. The present, with the moms and their 16-year-old girls. And the past, the moment when they were conceived.
Four moms, five daughters.
Regina’s story is not simple, much less traditional. She does not know which of the twins is the real father of her daughter.
Maria Jose grew up always being responsible for the two sisters. The most polite, neat and attentive, she ended up being a mother before finishing high school. Only with Regina, Ximena and Valentina is she really free, even though she is always restrained.
When Valentina was a teenager she spent the whole school year in Mexico City and summers in Italy, as her parents were divorced. And it was there, in the summer, that she met her daughter’s father.
Ximena is strong, determined, ambitious and dominant. Before getting engaged to Isidro she was between him and another guy. Rafael. But she decided for the first one.
Four teenagers. Four unexpected pregnancies. Four intertwined destinies. Four friends since birth. Four different worlds. Four inseparable teenagers.
